Our story

It started with a conversation in a golf buggy

Stroke Play Golf was founded by North East friends Andrew Biggs and Mark Eadle, following Andrew's own stroke.

As Andrew started playing golf again, the two friends saw first-hand just how powerful getting back onto a course could be. It wasn't about scores, handicaps or competition. It was about getting out, having something to look forward to, talking, laughing, rebuilding confidence and enjoying being with other people again.

Mark has worked in professional sport for more than 40 years, yet even he was surprised by the difference golf made to Andrew. Seeing that change was the inspiration behind Stroke Play Golf.

The concept was quite literally born in a golf buggy, during the many hours the two spent together on the course, asking one simple question: if golf could make such a difference to one person, how many other people and families could benefit from the same opportunity?

That conversation became Stroke Play Golf.

What we do

First launch

Longhirst Golf Club, Morpeth

Our first launch takes place in partnership with Longhirst Golf Club. It will be about listening as much as talking — Andrew and Mark don't pretend to have all the answers, and want people whose lives have been touched by a stroke to help shape what Stroke Play Golf becomes.

Andrew Biggs

Co-founder

A North East golfer who, after his own stroke, experienced first-hand what getting back onto a course can do for confidence, friendship and enjoyment of life.

Mark Eadle

Co-founder

More than 40 years working in professional sport — and still surprised by the difference golf has made to his friend. That was the inspiration behind Stroke Play Golf.

Our community interest statement

Stroke Play Golf exists to create a welcoming, affordable community where people whose lives have been touched by a stroke — and their partners, families and friends — can play golf at their own pace, meet others and rebuild confidence, connection and enjoyment of life.

Created in the North East and starting at Longhirst Golf Club, Morpeth, with the ambition of taking Stroke Play Golf nationwide.

Stroke Play Golf is being established as a Community Interest Company. Our CIC registration number, registered address, directors and annual accounts will be published here as soon as they are confirmed. This page is our starting point — a fuller website will follow.
